Added in Persona 5 Royal, Sumire has a fun personality and a complicated relationship with the Phantom Thieves. Ironically enough, it’s the third semester’s “bad ending” that delivers on this integral aspect more than the “true” ending of Persona 5 Royal. Putting aside the characters introduced in Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, which has yet to be released outside of Japan, Sumire Yoshizawa is the most recent character to join the Phantom Thieves. The core aspect that draws fans to the games isn’t flashy animations, cool battle mechanics, or even plot intrigue it’s the palpable love that each character has for one another and the incredible bonds forged from overcoming the horrors of the world together.

In the end, it’s just another symptom of Atlus’s inability to understand why people love the Persona series so much.
Then, the developers would have had the chance to do all of their characters justice. But that's just the thing: Royal's storyline, more than anything, should have been structured as a post-game campaign instead of being haphazardly shoved into the main story.
There's just not enough time to wrap up every thread from the story in one ending scene. That whole “is Akechi alive or dead?” scene was alright, but didn’t need to be there- especially not at the expense of adequately wrapping up the story for the rest of the characters.
